Lady Cards continue to roll in district play
The Columbus Lady Cardinal volleyball team improved to 5-0 last week in district play after defeating Tidehaven on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and the Palacios on Friday, Sept. 22, The Lady Cards dominated both matches, sweeping both teams all while celebrating accomplishments from two great players. Sage Thompson and Ally Tribe celebrated their athletic accomplishments they achieved while wearing a Lady Cardinal uniform. Thompson eclipsed the 4,000-assist mark while Tribe reached 2,200 kills in their career and what better way to celebrate than back-to-back district wins. 09/27/2023 12:00 AM

The Weimar Ladycats picked up their first two wins of their district schedule last week in dominant fashion. The Ladycats went to battle with the Flatonia Bulldogs on Tuesday, Sept. 19, then came back for more against the Louise Hornets on Saturday, Sept. 23, to open district play. WJHS volleyball finds wins over past weeks
The WJHS Ladycats played Flatonia in Weimar on Monday, Sept. 11. Flatonia has just three teams so only the eighthgrade teams and the seventh- grade A team played. The eighth-grade B-team won both games 25-15 and 25-11. The Ladycats had some fantastic serving by Karina Martinez and Angelic Jenkins. The eighth-grade A-team won in two games, 25-10 and 25-8. MJ Griffin had 12 serves, Kailea Burley had eight serves and Ty’Rianna Rhodes had six serves. Zariah Sims had three big hits and Victoria Sherwood played well on the net. 09/27/2023 12:00 AM

Lady Raiders drop back-to-back district games
ALTAIR – The Rice Lady Raiders volleyball team lost two district games last week to Yoakum and Tidehaven to give them a 1-4 record in district play this season. The loss knocked the Lady Raiders down from 5th to 7th place in the standings, but they have not lost sight of their goal this season of improving from last season. With nine games left on their schedule, the Lady Raiders will continue to work every day towards their goal of improvement. 09/27/2023 12:00 AM

The varsity volleyball team for Columbus has gotten the district portion of the season started with a dominant run throughout their first few matches. The no. 4 ranked team on the TGCA poll has yet to concede a single set so far in three matches, first winning in three-straight sets against rival Rice before sweep victories against Hallettsville on the road on Sept. 12 and Edna at home on Sept. 15. 09/20/2023 12:00 AM

The Columbus Junior High Lady Cardinals played Tidehaven at home on Monday, Sept. 11. The seventh grade B-Team tied with Tidehaven after losing set one 17-25 and winning set two 25-21. The eighth grade B-Team won both sets, first with a 25-11 win and then by a 25-4 margin. The seventh grade A-Team team won two straight by 25-16 and 25-6. HOUSTON – The Columbus Cardinals have established themselves as an offensive juggernaut early in the season as they have scored over 45 points in every game they have played so far. The rushing attack has been a big emphasis as lead running back Ty’Vone Whitehead uses his speed to impact the game and break away for huge gains.
