The Weimar Track team traveled to Ganado to participate in the District track meet on Thursday, April 4, and here are the results.

Weimar Varsity boys competed in the District track meet and placed 3rd as a team and the Weimar girls also competed in the District track meet and placed 3rd as a team.

The girls’ team was a hard-working and motivated group on Thursday. Throughout the season the team did an excellent job challenging one another to prepare for this meet so they could turn in their best performance.

Leading the charge for the Ladycats was Katharina Chaloupka competing in the 100m dash and the pole vault event. She placed 2nd in the 100m with a time of 13.03 seconds and then came in 1st for the pole vault event clearing the bar at a height of 10 feet six inches making her the District Champion.

Chaloupka was joined by Olivia Cabrera, Kimberly Rubio and Ruby Alamilla to run in the 4x100m and 4x200m relay. They placed second in both races with times of 51.70 seconds and on minute and 52 seconds.

Cabrera also took home 2nd place in the 200m dash finishing with a time of 28.02 seconds and in the 800m. Tate Griffin came in 3rd place with a time of two minutes and 41 seconds. Griffin also competed in the 4x400m relay along with Alazay Moreno, Brooke Ohnheizer and Faith Cantwell.

The team finished with four minutes and 25 seconds, earning themselves a silver medal. Rounding out the Ladycats’ participation in the district meet was Jaiya Cook in the discus event, and she placed 3rd after throwing the discus 95 feet and eight inches.

The Weimar boys’ team also had a strong showing led by Dalton Turlington, who also claimed the District Championship in the pole vault event. Turlington cleared the bar at a height of 12 feet and six inches.

Turlington also took home silver in the 200m run with 23.33 seconds. But this was just the tip of the iceberg for the Wildcats as Ty Cmelik joined Turlington in the pole vault event and took home second place clearing a height of nine feet and six inches.

Turlington, Jeron Fisher, Huxton Kloesel and Kam Burley were part of the 4x100m relay and finished the race with 44.22 seconds. Turlington and Kloesel also ran in the 4x200m along with Raul Sierra and Zack Norell where they finished with a time of one minute and 34 seconds and both teams came in 1st and are District Champions.

In the 110m hurdles and the triple jump the Wildcats secured two more silver medals with Sammy Hernandez coming in 2nd for the 110m hurdles and Jeron Fisher coming in 2nd for triple jump. Hernandez finished with a time of 17.95 seconds and Fisher jumped 40 feet and ¾ of an inch.
