The Weimar Wildcats traveled to Altair to participate in the Swamp Relays on Thursday, March 28.
Every Wildcat that placed in the top 10 of their respective events set a new personal record for themselves giving them a ton of momentum heading towards the district meet.
Starting off for the Wildcats was the 200m race where Dalton Turlington came in 7th place. He finished the race in 23.44 seconds but still had more to show once the field events rolled around.
Turlington competed in the pole vault event and came in 8th place jumping 12 feet over the bar. Turlington set personal records in both events and provided a spark for the rest of his teammates.
Sammy Hernandez joined Turlington in the field events competing in the high jump. Hernandez also set a personal record by jumping five feet six inches and finishing in 6th place.
Next was the girls 100m race where Katharina Chaloupka and Kimberly Rubio finished in 5th and 6th place respectively. Chaloupka finished with a time of 12.59 seconds and close behind was Rubio with a time of 12.66 seconds, both girls set personal records with these times.
Next was the 4x100m relay where Chaloupka and Rubio were joined by Ruby Alamilla and Olivia Cabrera. The team turned in one of the performances of the day and really worked as a team to crack the top 10.
The finished the race in 52.42 seconds earning them 9th place in the race only two seconds behind finishing in 1st place.
Chaloupka saved the best for last though participating in the pole vault event where she finished in 1st place. She cleared the bar set at 10 feet six inches high and locked up first place by six inches.
The Wildcats know the district meet is fast approaching and will look to build off their performance to get ready to make a push to the State meet.
