The Rice Lady Raiders have been experiencing a lot of growing pains this season, but the score does not reflect what this team is right now.

The Lady Raiders currently sit with a record of 0-21 and have been outscored 301-25 this season and they know about all of those stats.

What separates them from some of the other struggling teams is they are taking the field, stepping into the batter’s box or just sitting in the dugout eager to learn. Last week they played Columbus in Altair and then traveled to Palacios to play on the road.

They lost those games by scores of 15-0 and 10-0 which is not the prettiest of scores. But, this team never gave up and never got discouraged.

The effort they put forth despite being down by double digits was something out of a movie. They were scrappy to the very end and what stuck out was how their coaches approached and handled these situations.

Obviously, there is no coach on this earth that is ok with losing, and the Lady Raiders coaches are not in that category either. Lady Raiders head coach Kylie Mica has been really focusing on the short term goals right now as her team gpes through these growing pains.

It’s easy to tell a team they are not playing well, and they are losing and just really focus on the negative. But, at the end of the day these are young women and men, and they are impressionable still so positive reinforcement goes a long way.

Like every other baseball coach Mica meets here team out in front of the dugout to discuss what went wrong and how they can fix it on the fly. She points out the short comings but always said something they did right in the inning before breaking the huddle.

She gives the girls shine in the midst of a season that is riddled with plenty of negatives and her team responds in a way that is just infectious.

They have this unwavering belief in one another that is on full display every game. They are so close that is literally anyone makes a play for the Lady Radiers they all made a play and they celebrate accordingly.

These growing pains are something every team goes through at some point in their history. The Lady Raiders are no different and while things look bleak for this season, they are building something special, and it will be on full display soon enough.
