The Columbus Cardinals played two district games last week and won both to improve their district record to 7-0.

Both Cardinals games were played on the road but that did not matter as the first-place team in the district continued to roll.

@ Rice, W, 19-9

The Cardinals started their week in Altair when they traveled to play the Rice Raiders and they took no time at all to get settled in offensively.

The Cardinals scored 10 runs in the first three innings to Rice’s four and it set the tone for the rest of the game. The Cardinals were led by Dylan Zajicek who had two doubles and a triple.

Zajicek along with Britton Wolters and Trevor Berger combined for 10 RBIs in the win over Rice and set the stage for their next game against Hallettsvi lle on Thursday, March 28, in Hallettsville.

@ Hallettsville, W, 5-2

In their second game of the week the Cardinals put on a defensive show against Hallettsville.

Kaleb Kuhn was back on the mound for the Cardinals, and he continued his dominant senior season. Kuhn pitched all seven innings throwing 110 pitches 75 of which were strikes giving him a 68% chance to throw a strike in Thursday’s game.

Kuhn gave up two runs on five hits and walked only three batters in the contest. The defense behind did not let anything leak through and handled routine plays easily to get out of innings.

This allowed the Cardinals offense to hop in the driver’s seat for the game, and they answered the bell.

Brody Tribe, Zajicek and Trevor Berger all recorded doubles in the win over Hallettsville and helped score all five runs thanks to their offensive output. The trio combined for five RBIs because of those doubles, and they ended up maintaining their lead because of their effort.

The Cardinals are flying high in the district and will get to enjoy their home field their next game when they welcome Industrial on Tuesday, April 2, to their home field.
