The Columbus Lady Cardinals played two district games last week against Rice Lady Raiders and then traveled to play the first play Hallettsville Lady Brahmas.

The Lady Cards split those games, but they still hold onto the second-place spot in district with a record of 6-2.

@ Rice, W, 15-0

The Lady Cards started the week off strong traveling to Altair to take on the Rice Lady Raiders.

The Lady Cardinals were on a three-game winning streak before this game and came in looking to keep things going against a struggling Rice team. Offensively the Lady Cards had a great day recording six doubles and a triple.

Mia Post had two doubles while teammates Abby Wiggs, Ella Berger, Elli Brown and Sydnie Shepard each recorded one double. Berger hit the lone triple in the game and capped off their offensive performance.

On defense, Allie Cranek took over mound duty and pitched five innings giving up only one hit and sticking out 11 batters. Cranek threw 65 pitches and 51 of them were strikes giving her a 78% chance of throwing a strike on Tuesday night.

The Lady Cards had confidence heading into their game against the first-place team in the district and made their way to Hallettsville to challenge them.

@ Hallettsville, L 13-3

The game on Thursday was a complete 180 for the Lady Cards compared to their game Tuesday.

They could not find their footing offensively and struggled to hit the ball, recording only five hits in the game. On the flip side, the Lady Brahmas jumped out it an early 5-0 lead to start the game.

With the home crowd having their back the Lady Cards stumbled. The Lady Brahmas added two runs in the third then three runs in the fourth inning before the Lady Cards found some offensive luck and cut into the Lady Brahmas lead by scoring three runs in the fifth.

Unfortunately, the Lady Brahmas responded with three runs of their own in the third and closed out the game because of it.

The Lady Cards took the loss on the chin and quickly set their sights on Industrial where the Lady Cards will enjoy home field and look to get back in the win column.
