The Weimar Ladycats dominated their game against Schulenburg, and they had a playoff like game against Ganado to end the week.
The Ladycats increased their chances to make the playoffs with these two wins and showed that their championship DNA has not left.
@ Schulenburg, W, 14-1 For their first game of the week the Ladycats travel to Schulenburg to take on their district rivals.
Needing to find their way back to the win column the Ladycats knew they needed to handle business on the road. They started the game with eight runs at the top of the first innging and they kept their foot on the gas.
They added another run in the second inning then three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning to bring their total to 14 runs for the contest. The Ladycats gave up the lone run to Schulenburg in the first inning, but Taylor Smith bounced right back for her team on the mound.
Smith dominated the game on the mound and the defense behind her turned in one of their best performances of the season. Smith ended the game with 11 strikeouts walking only two batters and giving up only one run.
Smith also contributed two doubles in the contest along with Hannah Fisbeck who hit one double. Claire Pavlu and Ashley Treece chipped in on offense as well, both recording triples.
This set them up to come back home and take on Ganado and both team’s fans brought the energy for the game.
Vs. Ganado, W, 4-3
The Ladycats returned to their home field and welcomed in Ganado for their second district game of the week.
The atmosphere of the game felt like a playoff game and the Ladycats had to battle back to secure the win. Ganado held a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Ladycats finally found a way on the scoreboard to cut the lead to 2-1.
Ganado extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth causing their fans to roar back to life. In a close game Ganado seemingly delivered the dagger to the Ladycats but they knew they still had time to fight.
In the bottom of the seventh inning Madison Luckey made contact with a ball that found grass and was ruled fair by the umpires. Luckey’s hit went deep into the outfield and as she rounded first, she set her sights on second and slid into the base and when she looked up, she saw she was ruled safe and two of her teammates had made it home safely.
Luckey’s double tied the game for the Ladycats and from that point on they had firm control of the game. The Ladycats ended up walking it off in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete their comeback.
The Ladycats defeated the second-place team in the district in Ganado and look to continue to climb the standings before the playoffs.
