Voter registration certificates set to expire at end of year, but renew automatically

New Voter Registration Certificates will be mailed out to all currently registered voters by Dec. 6. These new cards are yellow in color and are effective from Jan. 1, 2024 until Dec. 31, 2025. They will replace any previous Voter Registration Cards/Certificates.

FAYS collaborate with Sheriff’s Office for Deputy Santa

The Deputy Santa Program will be a collaboration this year between the Sheriff’s Office and the Family & Youth Services. Applications for Deputy Santa can be picked up at the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office or at FAYS at 514 Washington St. All applications must be submitted at either location by 5 p.m. on Dec. 1. Applicants must be residents of Colorado County. Those wishing to donate gifts can also leave their donations at the listed locations as well as the Farm Bureau. The Collins family of Columbus had not been able to celebrate their 40th year anniversary of their first family reunion since the start of the pandemic in 2020. After three years of cancelled events due to the unprecedented times, the Collins finally reunited in Columbus to hit their milestone mark.

Connections to the county

While local residents were supporting Columbus and Schulenburg High School in the UIL State Volleyball Tournament last week, locals were also supporting Katy-Cinco Ranch High School’s quest for gold. Shea Rainosek, a Senior at Cinco Ranch, starts as the middle hitter for the team and is a three-year starter. Shea is the daughter of Perry (Weimar) and Stephanie (Simmons) Rainosek (Columbus) and granddaughter of Lea and Doris Rainosek and Jimmy and Randa Simmons. The team played Harlan (San Antonio) on Friday winning in 4 sets and competed in the State Finals on Saturday. Cinco came up short losing to Grand Oaks (Conroe) who was the No. 1 ranked public school in the state. Cinco finished as the 6A State Runner-Up amongst 260 teams in the 6A division comprised of the largest schools in Texas. Shea is committed to play volleyball at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX next year.

On Monday, Nov. 20, The Girl Friends group at the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus had a pre-Thanksgiving cooking lesson from Chef Raoul of Chef Raoul’s Catering. The chef and the girls prepared an Italian dinner complete with salad, cheese bread, spaghetti and meatballs and finished with a dessert of cannelloni.
