Adopt-A-Grandparent event held at Arbor Hills

EAGLE LAKE – One charitable foundation has taken it upon themselves to look after the county’s elderly as the Restoring Love, Faith and Hope Back to our Elderly ministry has led a campaign of altruism for senior citizen communities in the area. The most recent community to benefit was the Arbor Hills Rehabilitation Center as the ministry led the location’s first-ever Adopt-A-Grandparent event on Sept. 11.

Lady Raiders pick up first district victory
Lady Raiders pick up first district victory

The Rice Lady Raiders have a much-improved squad this season after benefitting from an extra year of experience from a team that returned every player from last season. The Lady Raiders have already surpassed their record from last season and are on the hunt to finish with a higher district placement than their last place finish a season ago. After picking up their first district victory last week, they have taken a major step towards reaching their goal. Just a few matches into the district season, the Lady Raiders find themselves tied for fifth place and ahead of winless Tidehaven and Hallettsville.

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Rice cross-country team took on one of their largest competitions of the season after a long trip to the south on Sept. 16 as the team nears the district meet. With well over 300 varsity runners for the boys and over 200 varsity runners for the girls, Rice had plenty of competition as they took on one of their toughest challenges this season. Despite the increased number of runners from several divisions, Rice still had many runners perform well.

ALTAIR – The Rice Raiders varsity football team felt like their offense was much better than their lone score performance against the no. 2 ranked Columbus Cardinals for their first loss of the season. They got their chance to prove it as their offense returned along with plenty of former Raiders for Homecoming on Sept. 15 against Palacios. Rice found their biggest scoring performance of the season, breaking the 50-point margin for the first time and finished the game with a 56-7 victory.

Wildcats dominate ground game again for fourth straight

WEIMAR – The Wildcats have officially surpassed their 3-7 record from last season just four games into the current season. Each of the four wins for Weimar have been in dominating fashion as they controlled the trenches on both sides of the ball; getting after the quarterback defensively and making huge holes for their running backs on offense. That trend continued against Snook as they hosted the Bluejays for their homecoming game. The Wildcats stuck to the gameplan as they reached the 50-point threshold for the third time this season in a 51-20 victory.

Ladycats ready for district play to begin

WEIMAR – The Weimar varsity volleyball team has done everything they can to prepare themselves for the upcoming district season after playing through some difficult matches in the tournament and non-district portion of the schedule. After coming out with a positive record, Weimar enters district play with the hopes of taking the top spot after gaining valuable experience throughout the first half of their season. They got their final tune-up for district after taking a three-game sweep against Fayetteville in a match that had its tight moments, but for the most part was dominated by the Ladycats.
