Bobcats eliminate Wildcats football

The Weimar Wildcats were defeated by the Refugio Bobcats 42-14 on Friday, Nov. 24, which eliminated them from the playoffs.

The Weimar Wildcats were defeated by the Refugio Bobcats 42-14 on Friday, Nov. 24, which eliminated them from the playoffs.

The Wildcats and Bobcats exchanged scores in the first and second quarters, but the Bobcats’ offense took over late in the second quarter.

The Wildcats offense struggled to get the ball in the endzone throughout the game but were still very productive to end the season. They racked up a total of 274 rushing yards and 29 passing yards for a total of 303 offensive yards.

The Wildcats utilized their rushing attack again on Friday night and it was led by Wyatt Lacina. Lacina carried the ball for a total of 128 yards and scored the only two touchdowns for the Wildcats Friday night.

The Bobcats’ defense quickly figured out the Wildcats’ offense and shut them down late in the second quarter. With the game tied 14-14 the Bobcats’ defense slammed the door on the Wildcats and was able to establish and extend the lead right before halftime. With four minutes left before halftime the Bobcats scored three touchdowns to make the score 35-14 at halftime and completely swung the momentum to their sideline. The Wildcats had no answers for the Bobcats on offense or defense before halftime and knew they would have to make some type of adjustment of they were going to find a way back into Friday’s game. The Wildcats’ offense struggled again in the second half, but their defense was starting to put some pressure on the Bobcats’ offense. Despite the pressure the Bobcats found the endzone again in the third quarter to extend the lead to 42-14.

The Wildcats’ defense and Bobcats’ defense collectively pitched a shutout in the fourth quarter finishing the game with a final score of 42-14. As the final buzzer sounded, the Wildcats left all of their emotions out on the field as they tried to stay on the field and be a part of High School football before moving forward in life.

The Wildcats were seen consoling one another after the game and their fans made sure they knew they were always going to support them in victory and defeat as the Wildcats’ fans saluted their team one last time in the 2023 season.
