March marks the observance of Save Your Vision Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of eye health and encouraging proactive steps to preserve our sight. Some of those proactive measures include improving access to eye care, promoting regular eye check-ups and providing resources for people in need.

Another month is coming to an end 2024. With the end of February and the start of March, it is a slim week of activities at the library.

On Saturday, March 16, national nonprofit Wreaths Across America will pay tribute to the American heroes who selflessly sacrificed their lives aboard Flying Tiger Line Flight 739 (FTLF 739). Join us for a special event at noon ET at the FTLF 739 Monument on the Balsam Valley tip lands in Downeast Maine. The event will be broadcast live on WAA’s official Facebook page and Wreaths Across America Radio.

When I was young, my favorite sandwich was the baloney sandwich. Sometimes, with cheese and other things, but most importantly, baloney. COLUMBUS – The Office of Emergency management will begin seeking feedback during the public opinion phase of the Hazard Mitigation Plan construction period. After seeking called in and written responses from county residents, the OEM will host a public meeting for residents to learn more about the current plan and to provide feedback.

A free program focused on necessary legal information will be held at the Weimar Public Library at 1 Jackson Square on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to a ribbon cutting for Prosperity Bank – Mortgages by Lindsey in front of the Stafford Opera House at 425 Spring Street.

GARWOOD – The school year has reached its latter stages after students at Colorado County schools have surpassed the 100th day of classes. Each school celebrated the mark differently, but the students at Garwood Elementary were challenged to show some kindness with charitable donations.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Today, Wednesday, Feb. 14, is Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of the Lenten season. St. Anthony students perform Mass this morning at 8:15 a.m. During Lent, students will pray the Stations of the Cross weekly, and will attend Adoration on Wednesdays.

The filing period for candidates in municipal and local elections will end on Friday, Feb. 16.
