The Friends of the Weimar Public Library will host local author James Brasher next Friday, Nov. 8, 11 a.m. at the library.
Brasher, a native of Weimar, will present his new and unique book on the Texas Revolution, “11 Days on the Colorado, The Pivotal Battle Unfought.” The book was published by the Texas State Historical Association Press and was released this past September.
A Texas A&M alumnus, Brasher earned an advanced degree in Geology, working 26 years in the oil industry before moving to Columbus. Brasher has worked the past 16 years in groundwater conservation.
Typical publications on the Texas Revolution tend to focus on the major battles and notable events, but few concentrate on the Texian army’s time encamped on the Colorado River. The book evaluates some of General Houston’s curious decisions after the fall of the Alamo and highlights some of the lesser-known figures in this part of Texas history.
This book will be a great addition to those with an interest in learning more details about the Texas Revolution that are often overlooked in many Texas historical tomes. It will also provide specific details about what transpired during the Texas revolution along the Colorado River area. Lastly, it will highlight some lesser known and underappreciated individuals that were important to this part of Texas history. Amanda Danning, nationally recognized sculptor and artist, provided illustrations for the book.
Books will be available for sale after the presentation. Both Mr. Brasher and Ms. Danning will be available to sign your book after the presentation. Refreshments will be served.
RSVP to the library at 979725-6608 to reserve your seat for this presentation.
