The lull is over!

Ladies’ Night Out, Christmas on the Colorado Lighted Parade, Santa Claus Museum open every Friday now from 12 noon to 6 p.m., Lunch & Learns, Columbus High School Career Fair, becoming a Film Friendly Texas town, and even a Casino Night are some of the projects that the Columbus Chamber of Commerce is working on. Combined with school being back in session and sports ramping up, it is the beginning of busy times in Columbus and Colorado County.

Fayette Community Foundation Impact grant cycle opens Sept.1

Since 2015, the Fayette Community Foundation (FCF) has awarded $43,500 to nonprofit programs enhancing local arts, culture, social welfare, health, conservation, and education. FCF’s 2023 Community Impact Grant cycle opens September 1st and closes September 30th, accessible through its new online portal. Beginning this year, funding priorities for the Community Impact Grant will focus on mental health and workforce development and education. Eligible nonprofits are able to apply for funding through FCF’s two signature programs: The Red Door Fund for Mental Health and The Green Door Fund for Workforce Development and Education.

Narcotics Task Force Arrests local man Aug. 10
Narcotics Task Force Arrests local man Aug. 10

Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT) executed an arrest warrant Thursday August 10, 2023 at approximately 11:00 am at the 1900 block of Bowie Street in Columbus, Texas. The operation was the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the Westside High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA), a Narcotics Task Force. Suspect by the name of Ray Coleman age 43, was located and arrested on active warrant for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. This task force covers four counties and is comprised of investigators from Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville PD, Sealy PD, Hempstead PD, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and DEA. The Colorado County Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation along with local authorities joining to assist with the operation as well.
