LEAH NEWBY

I am 39 years young. I work in sales and marketing, focusing primarily on analytics and eCommerce. My daily work involves tasks such as analytics, forecasting, and managing budgets. Additionally, I have a strong background in sales and negotiations. Although I pursued teaching as my major and hold an Associates Degree from the University of Houston at Victoria, my career took a different path. However, I still value the knowledge I gained while pursuing my education degree. Currently, I have three children attending Weimar ISD: Ashley Treece and Caleb Treece in high school, and Barret Newby in elementary school.

I am running for a position as a school board trustee to enhance communication and transparency within the district. Ensuring that our teachers have access to all necessary resources for fostering our children’s success is also a top priority. Growing up and having my children begin their educational journeys in a much larger school district, provided me with a unique perspective to introduce innovative ideas.

Collaboration with fellow trustees, educators, and the community will be crucial for achieving our goals. I aim for our parents and community to play a pivotal role in district decisions. Working closely with them to establish an open dialogue and achieve common objectives will be vital for advancing our district. Enhancing transparency regarding how taxpayer funds are used will be crucial for the success of our district.

As we look ahead, there may be impending funding challenges at both the state and local levels due to potential tax shortfalls. Working closely with the current board and local agencies will be essential to ensure we maintain a balanced budget.

Times are changing, and we need proactive leaders with fresh ideas in our community and schools. The way we taught students and operated 20, 5, or even 2 years ago is vastly different from today. Policies and laws change yearly, requiring the board to be nimble. We need active participation from all board members in every meeting, as there are critical issues that we cannot sleep on.

The trustee position is a serious commitment that requires work both inside and outside the boardroom. My ability to listen to various viewpoints before taking action will be crucial. I believe that effective communication on all issues will greatly benefit our district and improve transparency in day-to-day activities.

In recent years, I have been actively involved in the schools, serving on the PTO at the elementary level, where I organized school supply sales on two campuses and assisted with fundraisers. I have also served on the WHS Athletic Booster Club board, helping to raise thousands of dollars for our athletic programs. In both roles, I have collaborated with diverse groups to achieve common goals.
