I am Kyle Christen, and I am running for Weimar City County Place 2. Following graduation from Weimar High School in 2009, I moved to Waco to attend Texas State Technical College and graduated in 2011 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Geographic Information System Technology. After, I transferred to Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Digital Information Mapping.
I’ve been employed at Frank Surveying Company in Columbus for the past 10 years and am currently a project manager on staff.
My wife Spencer and I have been married since April of 2022 and have a newborn named Brooks that was just born in March.
I have been a volunteer fire fighter with the Weimar Voluenteer Fire Department for the past 10 years. This includes being elected within the department to serve as President for the past 3 years.
Goals while in office 1) Wanting to keep the community safe.
• I want to work with the other council members and address issues we have faced in the past. This includes the staffing of officers, which has had a large turnover rate over the past 5 years. I feel there should be at least two officers on duty at all hours of the night. It’s a proven fact that violent crimes mostly happen at night, and I want to ensure the city has the resources and personnel to keep the community safe.
2) City personnel
• This is another area known to have had a large turnover rate over the past 5 years. I want to help the council get to the bottom of this issue. I truly believe all employees should feel wanted and appreciated. Also, with today’s economy we need to ensure compensation is keeping up with the surrounding cities.
• Animal Control seems to have been getting a little out of control over the past 2 years. The city has ordinances in place for this reason. I want to ensure we have the staff to fill this position 24 hours a day. I don’t believe law enforcement should have to be called to pick up stray or loose animals after 5pm.
• Water is one of the essentials for life and I believe is another hot topic within the city of Weimar. I want to ensure the entire community is receiving water that is safe to drink. The replacement of the water line along North Summit Street helped all the residents in that area. If there are issues elsewhere, they need to be addressed.
The above two items are just a small portion of what I want to focus on. I’m not looking to change things, but rather looking to help improve the safety and the well-being of our voters. I’m also a huge believer in open door policy and want to hear both sides of an issue before jumping to a conclusion. I want to make Weimar proud not only for our generation, but for the generations to come. I love serving this community and believe great things can be accomplished with your vote. It is my goal to bring back the professionalism and level-headedness that this community deserves out of Weimar City Council Place 2.
