COLUMBUS – The workers of AL&M Building Supply celebrated one of their own on Nov. 2 as longtime worker Doris Guthman reached 25 years of service at business. Guthman’s celebration was held at the Hound Song Brewing Company brewhouse to recognize her accomplishments as an integral part of the company.

The Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association (BMGA) announced that registration is open for its 2024 Master Gardener Certification Training Class to be held in Brenham. The class is open to participants from Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington Counties, and will provide 50+ hours of gardening education from experts in various fields of horticulture.

AUSTIN – Waterfowl season is on the horizon and as hunters across the state start prepping their gear and boats for opening day, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reminds them to join the fight against the spread of aquatic invasive species like giant salvinia and zebra mussels.

LA GRANGE – On Nov. 3, 206 nonprofit and philanthropic organization representatives gathered at the Randolph Recreation Center for the second annual South Central Texas Rural Philanthropy Day hosted by the Fayette Community Foundation (FCF) and the Stanzel Family Foundation (SFF).

HOUSTON – A few Colorado County 4-H members had some strong outings at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Archery Competition on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29. The 4-H archery club had several of their competitors finish in top-5 spots, and each of their participants finished in the top six of their respective competitions.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Foresters and staff members from Texas A&M Forest Service celebrated Texas Arbor Day on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, with school presentations, tree plantings and tree giveaways across the state.

EAGLE LAKE – The accomplishments, success and progress made by the city of Eagle Lake over the past year is set to be reviewed and celebrated at the inaugural ‘State of the City Address’ on Nov. 9 with dinner starting at 7 p.m. in the EL Community Center, 100 N Walnut Ave. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m.

EAGLE LAKE – A $25,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority will help the City of Eagle Lake make much-needed repairs to the swimming pool at Eagle Lake Municipal Park.

COLUMBUS – The Habitat for Humanity organization held their second Pumpkin Patch fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as people from all over the county came to contribute and enjoy the fall festivities. Entry was free for those who attended as Habitat looks to make the annual event a staple in Colorado County.

The Westside Narcotics Task Force assisted the Colorado County Sheriff’s office with the arrest of a Glidden man during a narcotics investigation Oct. 20.
