COLUMBUS – The final iteration of the year for Saturday on the Square had a bit of Christmas flavoring as the event featured an appearance by Santa. Santa took pictures at the square with the families and children present before taking a trip around Columbus with the assistance of the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department.

GARWOOD – The Austin County Regional Special Response Team fulfilled a warrant for the alleged sale of illegal narcotics on Thursday, Dec. 7 along with Colorado County enforcement.

WEIMAR – The city government of Weimar has continued their search for a city manager to fill the position that has been vacant for just around six months. While there were several topics on the docket for the Council’s regular meeting on Dec. 14, many of the residents present were in attendance to witness the discussion surrounding the city manager position as well as the interview portion during executive session that was revealed and discussed openly during the subsequent public portion.

EAGLE LAKE – City Council held their final meeting of the year on Tuesday, Dec. 12 to discuss several items including the holiday decorations as well as deciding on accepting an election services contract with the county for the upcoming Municipal Elections.

WEIMAR – Texas Senator Joan Huffman celebrated a major milestone for the city of Weimar as they recognize their 150th year of existence.

Partygoers enjoyed wonderful food and so much fun visiting with each other and with Santa Claus at the garden club’s Christmas Tasting Luncheon.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB MEMBERS GET READY FOR CHRISTMAS

COLUMBUS – The police departments of Colorado County came together in support of the children in various county Boys and Girls Clubs for the Shop with a Cop event.

YARD OF THE MONTH AND COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION AWARD DECIDED FOR DECEMBER

EAGLE LAKE – The Eagle Lake City Council recognized the Whispering Oaks and Eagle Lake 4-H Clubs at their most recent city council meeting. The students were commended for their volunteer efforts surrounding the city’s events on Veterans Day. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Austin and Colorado counties are partnering with Texas Parks and Wildlife to host a Feathers, Furs, and Farming program on Dec. 15. The focus of this program will center around Wildlife Tax Valuation.

The Weimar VFW Auxiliary to Post 5875 met for its regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 12 with 10 members present. The meeting was opened according to the Ritual by President Charlene Muras.

COLUMBUS – The Dec. 8 edition of Friday Night Live hosted by the Noah’s Ark Coffee Shop featured a professional singer who provided opera vocals to some well-known holiday and gospel songs.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Christian Women’s Organization met for a special luncheon on Dec. 7 to discuss some of the things they have accomplished in the prior year and to give further donations to representatives of different philanthropic organizations throughout the county.
