Since 1976, the Habitat for Humanity organization has made it their mission to provide homes to those who do not have the resources to purchase one themselves. Their mission is extending to those who already own homes as earlier this year, Habitat for Humanity introduced their Critical Repairs Program to return damaged homes back to working condition.

EAGLE LAKE – The practice of freemasonry is one of the oldest institutions in the US as well as internationally as there have been many Masons who have taken their place in history. The Masons have made history a little closer to home as Masonic Lodge No. 366 received a historic dedication and a marker on Oct. 7 to designate the building as a notable location in the community.

COLUMBUS – The fight to restore and maintain the R.E. Stafford Opera House has gained momentum as donors have contributed a significant amount of funding to assist the cause. The Columbus Historic Preservation Trust held their second town hall meeting on Oct. 2 in the Buddy Rau room of the opera house and finished the night receiving $9,400 in donations.

October is deadly month for Texas pedestrians

AUSTIN – Fall and winter months bring shorter days and less light, making it harder for drivers to see–and safely avoid– pedestrians. October saw the highest number of pedestrian crashes in 2022. That’s why TxDOT is using National Pedestrian Safety Month to launch its “Be Safe. Drive Smart” campaign and remind Texans that pedestrians are our most vulnerable road users.

COLLEGE STATION – USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds drought impacted producers that they may be eligible for financial assistance through the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP), Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) and Emergency Haying and Grazing on Conservation Reserve Program to provide financial assistance to eligible producers for 2023 grazing losses due to a qualifying drought or fire and provide water for impacted livestock.
