Major damage to local gas station in wreck

COLUMBUS – A solo driver experienced a crisis on May 8 after having a health emergency behind the wheel that led to a collision with a Chevron gas station at 2417 SH-71 S according to police.

The official crash report claimed that the driver, 63-yearold Rufino Moreno of Houston, had a seizure while driving which led to the loss of control. The southbound vehicle was turning into the Chevron parking lot a few minutes after noon before the medical event occurred.

Once the seizure began, Moreno lost control of the vehicle and drove it into a gas pump and the building’s wall.

The collision caused major damage to the building according to the report.

A Colorado County Emergency Medical Service vehicle transported Moreno to the hospital following the incident. The scene cleared less than an hour after the initial report as regular traffic continued at just after 1 p.m. according to the police.

No other injuries were reported.
