Colorado County members of the Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association are pleased to announce the upcoming Colorado County Lunch-N-Learn Series in Winter/Spring 2024 focused on gardening and horticulture!

The 40th anniversary for the Annual Equipping the Saints sponsored by the Bluebonnet Conference of ELCA Congregations will be celebrated in 2024. The all-day event is being hosted by St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 400 N. Esplanade, Cuero on Saturday, Feb. 3. This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Past, Understanding the Present and Preparing for the Future.”

COLUMBUS – The Columbus High School band program is preparing for a musical showcase featuring the band director and fellow high-grade musicians on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the high school auditorium.

COLUMBUS – The New Greater Smith Chapel Baptist Church at 833 Preston St. will be celebrating a major milestone on Sunday, Jan. 14 as they host their 125th church anniversary at 3 p.m. following their normal Sunday service.

The Columbus Cardinals closed out 2023 by winning the Schulenburg Tournament only to come back on Tuesday, Jan. 2, and picked up their first win in 2024.

The Columbus Lady Cardinals traveled to Weimar High School to participate in the tournament that the Weimar Ladycats were hosting on Wednesday, Dec. 27, and Thursday, Dec. 28.

Despite the volleyball season ending a couple of months ago the Columbus Lady Cardinals players are still receiving awards for their efforts this season.

Capping off the Weimar Ladycats participation in their host tournament were their final two games against Edna and Seguin.

The Weimar Wildcats captured their first win of 2024 by defeating the Homeschool Christian Youth Association Warriors 4420 on Tuesday, Jan. 2, on their home court.

The Rice Lady Raiders captured their second win of the season by defeating Ganado 27-26 right before the new year on Friday, Dec. 29.

LA GRANGE – The Rural Nonprofit Networking Group is excited to invite all nonprofit staff and volunteers to join their next gathering which will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10. RNNG creates opportunities for the organizations that do so much good in our rural communities to share their missions and visions, discuss community needs and partnership opportunities, bring in experts to facilitate growth and professionalism, and simply connect to maximize the efficiency and impact that participants can bring to Fayette, Colorado, Lavaca and surrounding counties.

Grants of up to $50,000 available to first responders, civic groups, other nonprofits

The Turtle Wing Foundation’s annual Toast event is slated for Thursday, Jan. 25 at Sengelmann Hall’s second floor in Schulenburg. Doors open at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar during cocktail hour.

It’s Gala time at St. Anthony School! Mark your calendar for Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. and prepare to enjoy an evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing. This year’s Gala will be held at the Southern Oaks Event Center (formerly Braden Hall). Tickets are $50 each and may be purchased from any SAS student or the school office. The fourth graders at Columbus Elementary School welcomed members of the local chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Kathleen Townzen and Donna Pustejovsky from the Dilue Rose Harris chapter presented a Pioneer Life Trunk filled with replicas of items from the republic of Texas era. They sprinkled in a little bit of Texas history while explaining the use of everyday items, household items to toys. Students compared the items to their modern-day counterparts. The class got to demonstrate, handle, and play with the items and relate to their own experiences.
