Columbus Elementary fourth-graders experience Texas history

The fourth graders at Columbus Elementary School welcomed members of the local chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Kathleen Townzen and Donna Pustejovsky from the Dilue Rose Harris chapter presented a Pioneer Life Trunk filled with replicas of items from the republic of Texas era. They sprinkled in a little bit of Texas history while explaining the use of everyday items, household items to toys. Students compared the items to their modern-day counterparts. The class got to demonstrate, handle, and play with the items and relate to their own experiences.
