COLUMBUS – The Columbus Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to a Ribbon Cutting at Lamberto’s Brandon House Bistro on Thursday, Feb. 8.

The 40th anniversary for the Annual Equipping the Saints (ETS) sponsored by the Bluebonnet Conference of ELCA Congregations will be celebrated in 2024. The all-day event is being hosted by St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 400 N. Esplanade, Cuero on Saturday, Feb. 3. This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Past, Understanding the Present and Preparing for the Future.”

Nesbitt Memorial Library invites families to a special Pajama Storytime on Friday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. with newly published author Lindsay Neath Hall featuring Ralph the Garden Gnome as well as an appearance by Jordan E. Fayette who created the art for the book.

Church Annual Camp Meeting The Rock Island Full Gospel Church will be holding its annual Camp Meeting beginning on Monday night, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. It will continue Tuesday through Saturday night, Feb. 10 with daily services at 10:00 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Visiting ministers and singers from numerous states will be there to minister, sing, and fellowship. Meals and refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to attend for a time of worship, refreshing, and fellowship.

The Columbus Cardinals dropped back-to-back games last week and put themselves in a predicament for playoffs.

The Columbus Lady Cardinals played two road games this past week and ended up splitting them.

Six Columbus Cardinals were selected to be on the 3A Padilla Poll All-State Team with two making the First team and four making the Second team.

The Rice Lady Raiders competed in their host powerlifting meet on Friday, Jan. 19, and ended up winning the whole thing.

Noah Gonzales traveled to Shiner on Wednesday, Jan. 24, to participate in the 2024 Shiner Academic UIL Invitational Meet.

The Rice Raiders found themselves on the losing end of an overtime game again last week but bounced back with a win to end the week.

The Weimar Ladycats strengthened their grip on their playoff spot after splitting their two games this past week.

The Weimar Wildcats’ postseason dreams are slowly fading after their losing streak extends to four games.

ST. MICHAEL EVENTS AS THE YEAR REACHES ITS 100TH DAY

The University Scholastic League had several competitions for students to participate in such as writing and chess. The Columbus Elementary School had several top performers after sending many to perform.

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Forest Service awarded 126 recipients grants to conduct prescribed burns this year.
