The Columbus Lady Cardinals played two road games this past week and ended up splitting them.

The Lady Cards played Yoakum and lost earlier in the week but bounced back against industrial with a win and both games had a score of 43-40.

Starting the week off, the Lady Cards traveled to Yoakum on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to take on the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Cards have been playing some great basketball as of late and walked to keep things rolling against a team that is always a problem in district play. Yoakum is only a game and a half behind the Lady Cards in the district standings and wanted to gain some ground with a win.

Two strong-willed teams looked for a statement win in Yoakum, and it lived up to the hype. The Lady Cards came up short in the game by only three points when it was all said and done.

The win put Yoakum right behind the Lady Cards in the standings and put some pressure on the Lady Cards to win their next game. The Lady Cards embraced the pressure and traveled to Industrial ready to handle business.

After losing to Yoakum the Lady Cards knew they needed to play a perfect game on Friday night. This could have been viewed as a trap game for the Lady Cards, but they knew how to handle their business and did just that.

A Friday road game coming off a road game that they narrowly lost against a struggling opponent on their home floor with a chip on their shoulder trying to make one final push to try for a playoff spot. It’s a tale as old as time in sports.

The Lady Cards never blinked and secure a big-time win in a very close game.

The Lady Cards now focus on their next opponent, Hallettsville, who is the top team in the district. The Lady Cards have home-court advantage for their matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and will look to knock off the top team before the season ends.
