Weimar’s playoff hopes fading

The Huddle

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the Huddle.

Last week, we talked Rice basketball, and this week, we are talking Weimar basketball.

To be more specific I will be discussing how the Weimar Wildcats can still make playoffs. If you watched “Chop It UP” on our Facebook page, you would have seen that I said it would be difficult for the Wildcats to make playoffs if they lost to Schulenburg.

If they beat Schulenburg, the path is a little easier, but since you are reading this, and it is in the paper, I am sure you saw that Weimar did not win that game. But fear not, Wildcat fans, because I have found a way that the Wildcats can still make the playoffs. If they made the playoffs they would have to win out and Shiner loses out.

But those are two big ifs so let’s break things down a little and see how we ended up here and where they may go in the future. It’s always fun to speculate and this is in no way linked to Weimar these are just my thoughts so let’s have fun.

Before we dive right in though let’s look at this Wildcat team currently and let’s try to figure out who they are. This is a something that has been on my mind about this team because every game that I have seen of the Wildcats this season they have looked different.

When I say that I mean, one game they’re unstoppable offense, the next they’re dominating the free throw line, the next their defense is keeping them in it, the next they’re not aggressive on offense, you get the picture.

Basically, what I am saying is I am not entirely sure what this team is yet because they have not really established their identity. Me saying that may ruffle some feathers but I mean no disrespect, because this is a good ball club.

Just look at their schedule, they have some great wins throughout the season and have close games with much larger schools, so the talent is there. I am not saying these guys can’t play or they have no talent, or the team is bad.

They have so much potential in this team but somehow, they are on the outside looking in. They struggled to find their identity all season and sometimes it just doesn’t happen and that is ok.

This is still a young team, a VERY young team, they only had two seniors on the roster so no identity kind of makes sense if you think about it. Everyone reading this has been a sophomore or junior in high school once.

We didn’t have things figured out either. Which again no disrespect to the seniors this year because they really were the anchors for this team the entire season and did everything they could. But it just wasn’t in the cards this season.

So, while the most likely outcome is the Wildcats miss the playoffs, I want people to keep a close eye on them next year. Watch for the now juniors turn into seniors and the now sophomores turn into juniors and watch for this team to find who they are and find their identity.
