The Weimar Wildcats’ postseason dreams are slowly fading after their losing streak extends to four games.

The Wildcats dropped back-to-back games last week and will now need to throw things in overdrive and get some help of they are going to make the playoffs.

The week started with the team hosting Flatonia on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to start their week off. From the opening tip, there was a noticeable difference in the Wildcats and how they were approaching the game.

This game and the next couple of games are mustwin games for the Wildcats to keep their playoff goal alive and well. They came into the Flatonia game knowing this and wore that chip on their shoulder proudly.

Flatonia is currently the second-place team in the district and have only lost two games this season and showed no signs of slowing down. As the game wore on, Flatonia would not give the game to the Wildcats, and they welcomed the adversity.

The Wildcats’ defense has been their best phase of the game in most games this season and this game was no different. The Wildcats defense played a great game against Flatonia limiting them to only 48 points in the game.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats themselves were only able to score 47 and found themselves on the losing end of the game by one point and a score of 48-47.

The loss was a tough blow to a team trying to get over the hump and make the playoffs. There was still one more opportunity left against Schulenburg left on the schedule for the week.

The Wildcats squared off with their district rivals on Friday, Jan. 26, on the road in Schulenburg looking to get things back on track. Losing by one-point stings and the Wildcats were ready to taste victory again.

A win against Schulenburg would have boosted the Wildcats back into the playoff conversation, while a loss would almost remove them from it. Schulenburg sits atop the district standings currently and the Wildcats were looking to play spoiler on Friday night.

Schulenburg showed why they are the first-place team in the district though handling business on Friday night on their home court. Schulenburg handed the Wildcats a 50-31 loss and put the Wildcats very close to being eliminated from the playoffs.

The Wildcats still have their eyes on making the playoffs but will have to string together some wins and have a great opportunity to pick up a big win on Tuesday, Jan. 30, when they welcome in the Louise Hornets.
