The Weimar VFW Auxiliary to Post 5875 met for its regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 12 with 10 members present. The meeting was opened according to the Ritual by President Charlene Muras.

EAGLE LAKE – The Eagle Lake City Council recognized the Whispering Oaks and Eagle Lake 4-H Clubs at their most recent city council meeting. The students were commended for their volunteer efforts surrounding the city’s events on Veterans Day. YARD OF THE MONTH AND COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION AWARD DECIDED FOR DECEMBER

On Dec. 12, 2023, David Lee Zatopek’s soul ascended to the holy embrace of his beloved Jesus. His prayers were answered; he has joined his mother and father and is now cradled in the loving arms of God the Father and the Blessed Virgin Mary. David ‘s work and service to God on Earth is done, and he was prepared and accepted his new role with the Almighty.

Lillian Kubesch Gohlke Hobbs of Sheridan died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023.

Texas has celebrated the nativity and Christmas since the early Spanish settlers crossed the Rio Grande River in the 1500s. With a feast of wild game and music and dance, they created a simple pageant including native Indians to celebrate the birth of Jesus, along the riverbank.

Coming off of a district loss to Edna the Lady Cardinals competed in the Flatonia tournament where they got back on track with four wins.

The Rice Raiders are off to a fantastic start this season and now they have a tournament championship to add to their early momentum.

The Rice Lady Raiders have snapped their losing streak after 10 games to capture their first win of the season.

The Lady Cardinals had three seniors named to the All-State Volleyball team with one of them making the Legacy All-Star team.

The Weimar Wildcats won one of their first two games at the Thorndale tournament on Thursday, Dec. 7, and Friday, Dec. 8.

The Weimar Ladycats traveled to Moulton to compete in their tournament and posted a 2-2 record.
