The Columbus Lady Cardinals are heading to the third round of the playoffs after capturing the Bi-District and Area Championships last week. The Lady Cards defeated Randolph on Tuesday, Feb. 13, then came back on Friday and beat Poth on Friday, Feb. 16 to capture the titles.

Vs. Randolph, W, 44-37

The Lady Cards started the week off like every other playoff basketball team in the state by playing a neutral site game for their first-round matchup.

The Lady Cards came into this game with a little bit of a chip on their shoulder because of their success last season. The Lady Cards learned a tough lesson last season being bounced in the semi-finals and know what it takes to get there.

They set the tone early in the game and from that point forward they just chugged along down the tracks to a victory. They played their typical style of play and ran the floor very well.

This allowed their offense to do what they do best, and the Lady Cards are Bi-District champs because of it.

This taste of playoff action was all the Lady Cards needed though and they came back on Friday ready to do it all over again.

Vs. Poth, W, 60-51

On their playoff run last year the Lady Cards played Poth as well and the result this year stayed the same.

The Lady Cards played almost perfectly on offense in the second round against Poth. Despite a few missed shots and some opportunities sniffed out by Poth, the Lady Cards offense scored at will.

Defensively, the Lady Cards struggled down the stretch, and Poth closed the gap on the lead a bit, but the Lady Cards were too determined and won.

This sets the Lady Cards up to move to the third round of the playoffs where they will play against Lyte on Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Seguin.
