The end of the Ladycats season

Hello everyone and welcome back to the huddle I am so glad you guys could join me this week because we are talking about some more Weimar basketball.

Some of you may already know but the Weimar Ladycats basketball season ended after falling to the Mumford Lady Mustangs on Friday, Feb. 16, in Brenham, TX.

First things first, congratulations to the Ladycats on a truly fantastic season. I mean this team played great down the stretch and captured the Bi-District championship when most people wrote them off halfway through the season.

They took on all challengers and never showed fear or doubt in what they were doing, and they just rode that momentum into the playoffs. Though the season is over the Ladycats have a ton to hang their hat on and should be proud of the work they did this season.

Now looking at the Mumford game, I think the Ladycats had one bad quarter and it cost them. Which it’s hard because there’s playoff jitters obviously and it didn’t help that Mumford basically had a home game because their fans were loud and brought the energy.

Starting the game, the Ladycats were down 17-2 after the first quarter and the final score was 51-36. If we do a little bit of math and say the Ladycats score how they did in the other three quarters and keep Mumford’s offense in check like they did it’s a different ball game.

I think there were a couple of factors the lead to just a bad quarter for the Ladycats, but watching the game you can tell they just needed to settle into the flow and rhythm of the game.

Once they did that, they were in Mumford’s back pocket and giving them fits defensively. The Ladycats will use this as a learning lesson and build positively off this loss.

Like I said there’s a lot of pre-game jitters before any game but especially a playoff game, but they settled in nicely. They played their worst quarter of basketball at the worst time of the season.

Things like that happen to teams all the time, so don’t think I am saying that in a bad way because the thing I’ve learned about Weimar is you can hit them directly in the mouth but just be ready for that hit back because they are coming.

Thank you everyone for reading the Huddle this week, it’s always fun to check in with you guys every week and I can’t wait to break it down again next week.
