Early voting started April 24 and the Colorado County Elections Office has calculated the following stats from the first day: 54 total people voted – 30 at the Colorado County Annex, 6 at the Weimar City Hall, and 18 at the Eagle Lake Community Center.

55-year old patient delivers healthy baby at Columbus Community Hospital

A former local law enforcement officer was indicted on third degree felony charges in Colorado County last month and arrested April 17.

Megan Rae Mangum, 44 of Columbus died on April 24, 2023, at TLC Nursing and Rehab in Columbus, Texas. She was born on July 12, 1978, to Patricia Gordy Mangum and Mike Mangum. She had daunting challenges every day of her life but seldom let it get her down. She could light up a room with her smile and her laugh was infectious. She will be greatly missed.

COLUMBUS – A lighting strike was spotted Friday morning, April 21, west-northwest of Great Southern Wood Preserving, 1050 Great Southern Way.

The Weimar City Council has been overseeing and moving forward with a number of aesthetic and infrastructure improvements as there are many future changes that are on the way for the city. While these changes are not necessarily related to the upcoming Gedenke festival or the city’s 150th birthday, the timing of these improvements fit nicely with these celebrations as they approach.

EAGLE LAKE – During a special meeting on Monday, April 24, the Eagle Lake City Council met with Attorney Scott Bounds to seek or receive legal advice regarding pending or contemplated litigation; or a settlement offer. The consultation in accordance with Texas Government Code, Section 5551.071, was noted on the agenda.

EAGLE LAKE – The city council held a town hall on Thursday, April 20 to discuss road improvements and how a proposed bond could help with funding the improvement efforts.

On Thursday, April 20, LCRA Chief Meteorologist Bob Rose and Hydrologist/ Meteorologist Ethan Williams were guests at the Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club.

COLUMBUS LIONS WELCOME BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB REPRESENTATIVES

COLUMBUS – Nicola Hammett and Carla Cain, REALTORS with Coldwell Banker The Ron Brown Company, 930 Walnut St., recently earned special recognition for their outstanding performance in 2022.

WEIMAR – 10 volunteers from Oakridge Ranch Wildlife Management Association showed up on Earth Day, Saturday April 22, to pick up litter on County Road 215. The organization said on the 3.1 miles from the North Gate to County Road 215, about a half a dozen bags of trash were picked up. The organization would like to thank everyone who participated.

COLUMBUS – Last week, Columbus Community Hospital recognized its auxiliary volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week.

COLUMBUS LIONS DONATE TO COLUMBUS FOOD PANTRY

WEIMAR – The Weimar Area Chamber of Commerce invites residents and visitors to learn about the history and culture of Weimar by attending a “come-and-go” event at the Heritage Society Museum.

WEIMAR – Those interested in learning more about pecan trees can register for the 2023 Colorado/Fayette Pecan Field Day, hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Offices of Colorado and Fayette Counties.

SCHULENBURG – The Turtle Wing Foundation’s Jack Hooper Day at the Park is right around the corner.
