Mental Health Awareness Month: Why it matters

Mental Health Awareness Month matters because there are a good number of Colorado County citizens who are living miserable lives with Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Suicidal Thoughts, Phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Substance Addictions, Eating Disorders, lack of hope, lack of joy, medications that aren’t working and lack of money or transportation in order to receive treatment. And then there’s their families who don’t understand and/or totally worn out by years of dealing with a loved one whose life has so many ups and downs everyone feels like they are living in a bad soap opera.

Rice, Columbus get statequalifying performances at regional track meet

Raiders score plenty of runs, allow even more in loss

The Rice Raiders’ varsity baseball team finished the year with one of their strongest offensive days of the season at the plate in the season finale against the Palacios Sharks. They hit double digits as they found a lot of success with their hitting attack. However, they did not have nearly as much success on the defensive end as they struggled to slow down the Sharks from putting up double-digit hits of their own. Their difficult outing on defense undermined their success on offense as they eventually fell to Palacios in a 13-7 defeat to finish the season.

The offense and defense combined for a dominant performance that saw the Ladycats move on to the next round to compete against the La Villa Lady Cards for another threegame series. Game one will be played in Beeville on Thursday, May 4 at 6:30 pm with Game two to be played on Friday at Kenedy High School at 5 pm.
