The Weimar Ladycats got their postseason run started the right way with a complete effort against the Falls City Lady Beavers. Weimar finished their playoff opener with relative ease as they won two straight games by double-digit margins and forcing mercy-rule finishes in both games. The offense and defense combined for a dominant performance that saw the Ladycats move on to the next round to compete against the La Villa Lady Cards for another threegame series. Game one will be played in Beeville on Thursday, May 4 at 6:30 pm with Game two to be played on Friday at Kenedy High School at 5 pm. If necessary, Game three will be played directly following Game two.
Game 1, W, 10-0
Weimar’s first game against Falls City featured domination at every stage of the game. Offensively, the Ladycats ran out to an early lead and got plenty of support from their high-performing defense and pitching. Weimar got their postseason started with a three-run inning after holding the Lady Beavers scoreless at the top of the first. The Ladycats added four more runs in the second inning and two more runs in the third to create a big lead that Falls City would never be able to threaten. Weimar held a big lead but could not push it to double digits until the sixth inning when they scored their 10th run and forced a mercy-rule finish.
The Ladycats had several players finish with multiple hits that helped them claim such a strong advantage. Kaelyn Williams led the team in hits with three hits that led to two RBIs. Hannah Fisbeck and Taylor Smith had two hits each and combined for seven RBIs with Fisbeck leading the way with four. Reagan Wick had one of the biggest hits of the game with a double, and Smith had her own big knock with a triple.
Wick had an even bigger impact from the mound as she turned in a quality start and pitched in every inning. She allowed just a single walk as she struck out 14 batters and did not allow a single hit in the shutout victory.
Game 2, W, 14-1
Weimar responded with another big game offensively to clinch their spot in the next round. It took just a bit longer for the hitting floodgates to open for the Ladycats. After being held scoreless in the first inning, Weimar got their opening run in the second inning before following with three runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning. Weimar picked up a game-high six runs in the fifth inning before putting the game out of reach and forcing a mercy-rule victory.
Izzy Reeves had the strongest day at the plate with four hits including a double and three RBIs as she provided half of the team’s hits. The biggest hit of the day was provided by Hannah Fisbeck as her three-run homer in the fifth inning contributed to the scoring explosion to end the game.
Taylor Smith had a quality start on the mound for game two, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out 12 batters.
