COLUMBUS – The community gathered at Mid-Town Park Saturday morning for a tree dedication hosted by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
Attendees enjoyed a color guard presentation of the flags, followed by the singing of the National Anthem by kids from the Lil Einstein Learning Center, an invocation by Pastor Joel Usher, a ribbon cutting, and refreshments.
The event was held to commemorate Columbus’ 200th birthday.
Six trees were planted at the park by Schobels’ Tree Farm: Veteran’s Tree, Law Enforcement Tree, Volunteer Fire Department Tree, Emergency Medical Services Tree, and two Loved Ones Trees.
Chamber of Commerce Events Director Janet Hollmann said the Volunteer Fire Department tree can be for any tree in the county.
“These trees will be a living reminder of all our loved ones–those who have gone before us and those who are still with us,” Hollmann said. “As we dedicate these trees, let us remember all those we hold dear to our hearts.”
Mayor Lori An Gobert and City Manager Donald Warschak were on sight to cut the ribbon.
“These trees are here for many generations to come, Hollmann said. “These trees are dedicated to the memory and honor of our loved ones. Today as you walk through the park, you will see temporary markers noting the names of the trees and donations received.”
The Chamber said they are working on permanent stone markers. The Chamber said the community can still honor or remember a loved one with a $100 donation.
