CDA DONATES TO FOOD PANTRY

The Columbus Garden Club along with city officials invites the community to help clean up the city from March 1 to May 31 by picking up litter, planting trees and flowers, painting fences, mowing vacant lots, cleaning streets and parks, and more.

A Meet the Candidates event for the upcoming May 6 election will be Wednesday, March 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Nesbitt Memorial Library, 529 Washington St., Columbus.

PALACIOS – The Columbus Cardinals’ track and field team came away with some impressive performances as they competed in the Shark relays over spring break. Several Columbus athletes achieved medals after securing top placements in their respective events. Both the boys and the girls boasted medal- earning efforts as each team secured spots in the top five. The boys finished in fourth place as a team and the girls completed the meet in the fifth-place spot.

Rice High School played host to the special needs track and field event in the first week of March that provided fun and the spirit of competition to the special needs students who participated. Everyone who attended went home as winners as they witnessed the joy that comes along with sports and activity. The event promotes outdoor activity and a healthy lifestyle in an enjoyable way. The competitors competed in Rice’s Memorial stadium as they ran races, did throwing events and received medals for their performances.

COLUMBUS – On March 9, Ms. Mary Tromblee’s class at St. Anthony Catholic School welcomed members of the Dilue Rose Harris chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

In last week’s edition of the Citizen in the FFA coverage section, the buyers of Jase Rau’s Reserve champion market hog were listed as Bill and Hadley Sciba. While the attribution of two in the photo was correct, they were there representing the actual buyers, 1st State Bank.

EAGLE LAKE – Members from the Eagle Lake community and beyond including Fulshear came out to the community meeting held at the Community Center Tuesday, March 7.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus High School One Act Play advanced to Bi-District. The following students received awards: Cason Sunderman received the overall best technician award for his sound engineering expertise.

WEIMAR – The City Council met March 9 in a regular meeting to discuss a matter pertaining to the hiring of an officer by the Weimar Police Department, who has since been terminated for falsehood.

SAN ANTONIO – The 10th Annual H-E-B Quest for Texas Best returns in search for the best items made in the Lone Star State.

EAGLE LAKE – Residents looking for services catered to older adults can find a solution from Rice Medical Center’s Lighthouse program.

COLUMBUS – The Health and Behavioral Wellness Council of Greater Colorado Valley also known as The Wellness Council, met to discuss mental health and disability services for adults and children.

LIONS CLUB DONATES TO LIBRARY

COLUMBUS – Industry State Bank location held a successful open house on March 3. Coffee and kolaches were set out for the morning crowd. Seafood etouffee, fruit, and cookies and brownies were enjoyed by all for lunch. The bank would like to thank everyone who came out to enjoy the day with them.
