Columbus community spotlighted in filming of movie

Motivate Pictures and Motivate Pictures Europe joined to spend the months of September and October filming the feature film “Finding Solace” featuring the beautiful town of Columbus, Texas.

Maurice Moore, Motivate Pictures’ founder, director and screenwriter, first visited Columbus about a year ago and decided it was perfect for “Finding Solace”.

“The picturesque town that I envisioned in my writing came to life the moment I first drove through the town square of Columbus,” Moore said, “It was everything I could hope the fictional town of New Liberty would be.”

Maurice knew exactly what he needed, and the town enthusiastically and diligently worked with him for a year to prepare for him and his team to do their work with no disruption to the community’s day-to-day business. City officials were also welcoming and accommodating to their mission.

“This has truly been a fun experience working with such great people and learning about the creativity and hard work it takes to make a motion picture,” Columbus Chamber of Commerce Tourism Director Shelly Janik said, “It has been a pleasure working with each of them as they film in my hometown.”

“Finding Solace” is a psychological thriller revolving around the Solace sisters who have been estranged for many years but are forced to reconnect after the death of their father in a small town in Texas.

Meanwhile, the local Sheriff is investigating a series of murders that seem to be related as they spread panic within the community. As the Solace sisters fight to rekindle their troubled past, they realize that it’s that past that links them directly to the murders. Now, their lives may be in grave danger.

“This feature film is a passion project that has allowed me to tell a story that is near and dear to my heart,” Moore said, “I think my story will not only entertain, but leave the audience with some space for reflection, discussion, and allow opportunity for some personal growth.”

“We are so excited to be bringing business to the town of Columbus. The energy and support surrounding Motivate Pictures being here is infectious,” Motivate Pictures Communications Director, Brand Manager and Producer Jennifer Whitney said, “From the Chamber of Commerce and its champions to the local Press and Media, to the wonderful staff at Walmart and HEB, Airbnb’s, hotels, convenience stores and restaurants, we are so grateful for this small-town Texas hospitality.”

“Finding Solace” will be independently distributed nationally in movie theaters, and with some luck, in Columbus, Texas.

Maurice Moore and Motivate Pictures is based in Austin. Motivate Pictures Europe is based in Barcelona Spain where 10 of the 22 crew members traveled from to stay in Austin and film for a month in the fall.

“I chose Austin to be Motivate Pictures’ home base rather than Hollywood because to me, Texas has the most amazing scenery across the state than any other place in their country,” Moore said, “Anything I can envision writing, I can create in Texas. It’s an honor to have my best friend and Cinematographer extraordinaire Alex Rios - my partner of 15 years, here with his crew from Spain and El Salvador to contribute to the success of this feature film.”
