WEIMAR — The Houston SPCA animal shelter rescued several dogs from a property with low and poor conditions as 44 chihuahuas were seized by the shelter and the Weimar police department.
A warrant for civil seizure was issued on Wednesday, Oct. 11 before being fulfilled by the WPD and the SPCA animal shelter.
According to the shelter, the dogs were staying in “deplorable conditions” in housing littered with urine and feces.
“Most of the dogs were kept outside in makeshift housing filled with urine and feces with no fresh water,” according to a news release from the shelter, “Authorities had to search for additional dogs hiding inside a nearby abandoned trailer that was filled with garbage, debris and feces.”
The dogs are currently in care of the shelter as they await a hearing to determine custody of the animals.
