Commissioners OK county, courthouse improvements

COLUMBUS – The Commissioners Court made several resolutions at their most recent meeting including creating an understanding of assistance during evacuation emergencies with the city of Angleton as well courthouse and county projects and improvements. The following are a few key takeaways from the Oct. 23 Commissioners Court.

COLUMBUS — The Commissioners Court made several resolutions at their most recent meeting including creating an understanding of assistance during evacuation emergencies with the city of Angleton as well courthouse and county projects and improvements. The following are a few key takeaways from the Oct. 23 Commissioners Court.

Dusty Dittmar was nominated to remain on the County Appraisal District Board during turbulent period for the office.

Established an understanding with the City of Angleton that in the case of emergency evacuations, EMS services from either Colorado County or Angleton can reside in the others emergency operation center until the emergency passes. Each force has committed to assist the other in such a situation.

Awarded the bid to construct the bridge plans on Zimmerscheidt Road on the Paasch Creek low-water crossing to the Wakefield Bridges company for a $230,000 project.

Established a 40-mph limit on County Road 111 in Garwood with heavy equipment and 18-wheelers likely to frequent that road.

Resolved to accept at least $100,000 in grant money from the Texas Department of Transportation for the routine maintenance of the Robert R. Wells Jr. Airport, as well as contribute to the long-term plan of improving the lighting and electrical at the airport.

Accepted a project to improve the drainage around the courthouse to prevent standing water in the basement during rains.

Set Wednesday, Nov. 15 for the canvassing date regarding the ESD No. 1 and Texas Amendments election on Nov. 7.

Nesbitt Memorial Librarian Susan Chandler recognized for her work in assisting the county to secure a grant by researching and providing information on the establishment of Colorado County.

The next Commissioners Court meeting will be on Monday, Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. in the Colorado County Courthouse at 400 Spring St. in Columbus.
