At the State Powerlifting Meet the Columbus Cardinals had one student perform well enough to win a scholarship. Clay Kohleffel lifted a total of 1,500 pounds at the state meet earning him 11th place and a $1250.00 scholarship. Kohleffel was all smiles after winning the scholarship and rightfully so because he earned every penny.

St. Anthony holds events during Holy Week

During this sacred Holy Week, St. Anthony School students and faculty are praying and reflecting on the Passion of Jesus Christ to remember His suffering and ultimate sacrifice. On Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday), Saints will have a “washing of the feet” service at 8:15 a.m., and an early release at 1:15 p.m. There will be no school on Good Friday or Easter Monday.

Texas job growth surged in February

The Texas labor market again achieved new record-high levels for jobs, Texans employed, and the civilian labor force following over-themonth increases in February. Texas’ seasonally adjusted job count increased by 49,800 over the month of February to reach 14,103,700 jobs. This reflects job growth in 44 of the last 46 months and marks the largest total nonfarm monthly job gain since January 2023.

Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 10.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.14/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 35.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 7.0 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has risen 2.0 cents in the last week and stands at $4.02 per gallon.

The focus for farmers is planting. Texas and Louisiana are underway, but fields in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Missouri are being prepped. California is still waiting out the spring weather with another storm expected through the weekend. Texas has passed 30% planted. Prices for paddy have remained firm, even as the milling activity has quieted down a bit. Domestic business remains, but trouble in Haiti has the potential to snarl up the flow of exports in the coming weeks.
