The Weimar Ladycats picked up a huge district win over Flatonia on Friday, March 22, in Flatonia.

The Ladycats pitcher Taylor Smith had another strong game while the offense received contributions from everyone.

The game started with the Ladycats jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Then in the second inning, they added six more runs to their lead to make it 8-0 before the third inning.

Offensively, Hannah Fisbeck and Smith were the big hitters for the Ladycats. Fisbeck recorded a double while Smith left Flatonia with a home run ball.

The duo combined for five of the Ladycats’ 10 RBIs in the contest, and Fisbeck recorded a hit on all four of her at-bat attempts. Smith hit on three of her four attempts and neither of them struck out, providing the offense some swagger.

But Smith was not done impacting the game just yet. In addition to being an offensive force, she impacted the game on the mound when the Ladycats took the field.

Smith pitched all six innings for the Ladycats where she gave up one run on two hits and walked only one batter. She also recorded an impressive 15 strikeouts during the game and frustrated Flatonia’s offense.

Smith threw 93 pitches Friday night, 67 of them were strikes. That means 72% of the pitches she threw on Friday were strikes and Flatonia had no answer for her.

The Ladycats added three more runs between the fifth and sixth inning to extend their lead, and Flatonia finally scored in the sixth inning to make the final score 111.

The Ladycats know they have a tough district schedule coming up and they want to be playing their best ball and this game was a step towards that goal.

They have their eyes set on their next opponent which is going to be a road game against district rival Shiner on Tuesday, March 26, at 6 p.m.
