The Weimar Wildcats played two district games last week against Louise and Flatonia, and they walked away with one win and one loss.

The Wildcats know they must string some wins in their season and set that tone in their first game against Lousie.

Vs. Lousie, W, 12-2

Coming off a big road win that required extra innings, the Wildcats brought that same energy to their home field where they took on Louise.

It only took four innings to get the job done and it is largely thanks to a nine run second inning from the Wildcats. Weston Pavlik and Ashton Wahrenberger contributed largely to the offensive effort recording a double and a triple respectively and combined for four RBIs.

Pavlik and Huxton Kloesel shared mound duties against Lousie combining for nine strikeouts in four innings allowing two runs on four hits in the contest.

The game was a good confidence boost for the Wildcats, and they wanted to bring that momentum into Friday’s game against Flatonia and they did but a late comeback damped things down.

@ Flatonia, L, 5-3

Friday’s game saw the Wildcats still playing with confidence, so much so that they held a 3-1 lead going into the fifth innning.

Feeling comfortable with the way they had been playing the Wildcats took the field and looked to close things out. Flatonia caught them on their heels a little bit and came roaring back in the bottom of the fifth.

Flatonia scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead late and the Wildcats scrambled. They could not regain their footing offensively and it ultimately cost them.

With one last chance in the seventh and final inning the Wildcats made one final push but came up just short. The late Flatonia rally was something the Wildcats are looking at as a learning tool to get better before their next district game.

Their next district game comes against Shiner on Tuesday, March 26, where they will be looking to upset their district rival on their home field.
