Hello, everyone and welcome back to the Huddle, it has been a while since I have done one of these, so I picked a good topic for you guys.
Today we’re talking about just how good the pitchers are for the Columbus Cardinals because they are a major factor in their recent district success.
Sitting at a 5-0 record through five district games, the Cardinals have leaned heavily on their pitchers during this stretch. In their district there are a lot of good defensive teams so the Cardinals offense struggles for some games but luckily for them they have two pitchers that can get them out of any jam they find themselves in.
Now some of you may be scratching your head asking who the second pitcher is because we know about Kaleb Kuhn and how special he is on the mound. The second guy is James Janek, and this guy got that extra gear needed to succeed as a pitcher.
To put it more into perspective when Kuhn recorded 19 strikeouts against Industrial Janek came back literally 10 days later and recorded 13 strikeouts against Palacios.
So, the Cardinals have two guys that can record double-digit strikeouts in a game but are pretty much guaranteed 7-9 strikeouts a game. This duo of Kuhn and Janek have combined for 112 strikeouts over 12 starts this season.
In those 12 starts the pair combined has only given up 27 hits, gave up 14 runs, had nine errors and only walked 29 batters. Opposing batting averages against them are even more impressive with opposing teams having a .123 batting average against Kuhn and a .132 batting average against Janek.
These guys are the engine right now behind the Cardinals’ win streak.
This allows their offense to play however they want and settle into games at their own pace. If they want to be aggressive or conservative, they know whenever they go back into the field teams are going to struggle to hit the ball.
With a fair amount of their district schedule the Cardinals will be looking to keep this level of production up for their players because if they do, they will cruise right into the playoffs easily.
