CEF receives $25,000 from Hancher Family

Columbus Education Foundation (CEF) received an outstanding gift from the Hancher Family: $25,000 to enhance educational opportunities for Columbus Independent School District (CISD) students. The donation will make more scholarships available for both college, trade and technical schools.

Sharing God’s love: Columbus making a positive impact in Peru

Due to the generosity of the community as well as the members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus, the St. Paul Peru team was able to raise over $10,000 during 2023 to send to its sister congregation, Iglesia Cristiana Camino de Santidad in Cañete, Peru. These funds were used to improve their church building.

Joseph Lee Till, age 76, passed away on Nov. 11, 2023. Joe was born to Leo and Elizabeth Till on Feb. 6, 1947 in El Campo, TX. Joe grew up in Nada, TX and became a long-term resident of Weimar, TX for more than 50 years. He married his best friend, “Sissy” Mae (Jackson) Till on July 20, 1985.

Lege gets to work in fourth special session

The Texas Legislature, conceived as a part-time body to meet every other year for 140 days, is now in its record fifth session (counting the regular session). When the impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is included, legislators have been in Austin pretty much the entire year, as the Texas Tribune noted. While legislators are paid just $7,200 a year in salary, per diem payments – meant to cover their expenses while in Austin – have mounted. If the fourth special session goes a full 30 days, taxpayers will have spent $4.8 million keeping lawmakers in Austin.
