Joseph Lee Till, age 76, passed away on Nov. 11, 2023. Joe was born to Leo and Elizabeth Till on Feb. 6, 1947 in El Campo, TX. Joe grew up in Nada, TX and became a long-term resident of Weimar, TX for more than 50 years. He married his best friend, “Sissy” Mae (Jackson) Till on July 20, 1985.
Joe and Sissy spent plenty of nights at the Western Club in Altair, listening to some “oldies,” two stepping and shooting pool.
Joe never met a stranger, he would strike up a conversation with anyone he met, chatting about the latest news in Weimar. Joe was the BBQ master; and he was proud to be a part of “The Crazy Cookers” cook off team, bragging about their winnings.
In his later years, Joe could be found in his garden, picking pecans, mowing the lawn, or taking a break in the garage, listening to his favorite country music and sipping on a cold Busch Light. Joe could fix nearly anything, he was employed at Rosenhauer’s Auto Repair Shop and then worked for Colorado County Precinct 2 for more than 20 years, where he maintained and operated heavy machinery to care for the community he loved.
Recently, Joe spent time at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Home where he enjoyed “working” with the nurses and therapy; he focused on keeping everyone “in line”, specifically his favorite nurse and beloved granddaughter, Krissi.
Joe was a sweet, kindhearted man, and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
The Family expresses their gratitude to Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center and Hospice of South Texas for their love and support.
Joe is survived by his wife “Sissy” Mae Lee Till; daughters, Shannon Burchfield and husband Daniel of Weimar, Renee Fox and husband Mark of Austin, AK; son, John DelDotto and wife Carolyn of Weimar; sisters, Evelyn Howell and husband Frank of Columbus, Mary Ann Poppe and husband Robert of Weimar, Jeanette Orsak and husband Ronnie of Victoria, Rose Urban and companion, Clarence of Columbus, and Cathryn Till of Columbus; brothers, James Till of Garwood and Allen Till of Rock Island; Brother- in-law, George Mondrik Jr. of El Campo; grandchildren, Amber Garkow, Crystal Buford, Krissi Paschall, Daniel Benson Burchfield, Cordale Burchfield, Amanda Burchfield, Jessica Sorrells, and Dustin Griggs.
