Join the Red Door Fund for Mental Health in building stronger, safer, and more vibrant communities where every door is a gateway to hope and support. In 2021, this heartfelt initiative, motivated by a four-year-old artist’s innocent creation, came to life with the establishment of The Red Door Fund for Mental Health, a program of the Fayette Community Foundation.

Colorado County 4-H members had a successful weekend at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Dairy Judging Contest. This contest gave members the opportunity to evaluate heifers and cows in the Jersey, Brown Swiss and Holstein breeds, as well as giving seniors an opportunity to give oral reasons as to why they placed a class.

COLUMBUS – The teachers and staff of Columbus Independent School District now know their schedules for the next school year after the Board held a regular meeting on Jan. 22.

GLIDDEN – Before the calendar crossed from 2023 to 2024, Edward Pavlicek and his dedicated group of volunteers held one last act of charity before the new year on Dec. 21. The annual ‘Soup for your Soul’ and toy drive event has grown in magnitude each year as the group of donors and volunteers help feed and give gifts to families for the holiday season.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus High School band program is preparing for a musical showcase featuring the band director and fellow high-grade musicians on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the high school auditorium.

The Texas Right to Life organization is hosting a Walk for Life rally in support of anti-abortion efforts as well as protesting human trafficking and euthanasia in the nation. The Columbus-hosted event is planned for Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. starting at the Industry State Bank at 2015 Milam St.

COLUMBUS – Columbus Community Hospital welcomed the first newborn of 2024 when Theo Vavrusa was born Jan. 2 to Dana Benz and Trey Vavrusa of Hallettsville. Dr. Eslam Elhammady and the labor and delivery nurses at CCH delivered the 8.3 lbs. baby boy.

WEIMAR – The City Council’s first regular meeting of the new year saw a decision being made on the position of Fire Marshal after the previous Marshal, Mc-Caul Ulrich, resigned due to a potential breach in nepotism code. The city accepted recommendations before holding a vote in open session and deciding on the position.
