SHERIFF’S REPORT

Sheriff ’s Report

THURSDAY, AUG. 1

At approximately 6:52 a.m., deputy Thomas was dispatched to the 1300 blk of County Road 222, Weimar, in reference to property damage. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case information only.

At approximately 5:10 p.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to a business located at the 6700 blk of US HwY 90, in unincorporated Sealy, in reference to a theft. After further investigation, a warrant was issued in reference to this case, and Richard Acevedo, age 38, of Columbus, Tx, was arrested for Theft of Property >=$2,500 <$30,000 (State Jail Felony). Case cleared by adult arrest.

SATURDAY, AUG. 3

At approximately 7:30 a.m., deputy Zwahr was dispatched to the 1900 blk of CR 114, Garwood, in reference to a structure fire. After further investigation, the house was fully engulfed and determined to be caused by faulty wires. Case cleared by information only.

SUNDAY, AUG. 4

At approximately 12:43 p.m., deputy Zwahr was dispatched to the 1000 blk of Weido Loop, Columbus, in reference to a burglary of habitation. After further investigation, information was received and determined the victim to be uncooperative. Case inactive.

At approximately 7:03 p.m., deputy Byars was dispatched to the 600 block of Hadden Street, Alleyton, in reference to a burglary. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. The case will be inactive until further information is developed to identify the suspect(s) involved.

TUESDAY, AUG. 6

At approximately 8:30 a.m., deputy Weido met with a complainant at the Sheriff’s Office in reference to a general contractor refusing to pay a subcontractor for work performed at a job site located on State Business Highway 71 in Columbus, Tx. After further investigation, it was determined to be a civil matter. Case information only.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 7 At approximately 5:36 p.m., deputy Byars was dispatched to the 6700 block of US-90, Sealy, in reference to an intoxicated person. After further investigation, Shannon Annette Cottingham, age 51, of Sugar Land, Tx, was arrested for Public Intoxication - Misdemeanor “C”, Terroristic Threat Against a Peace Officer - State Jail Felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 3 - Misdemeanor “A”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

FRIDAY, AUG. 9

At approximately 10:38 a.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to the 300 block of Camp Street, Alleyton, in reference to Theft of Service. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case active.

At approximately 6:06 p.m., deputy Johnson was dispatched to FM 109 near Abel Road, New Ulm, in reference to a motor vehicle accident. After further investigation, James Tucker, age 61, of Columbus, Tx, was arrested for Public Intoxication - Misdemeanor “C”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

SATURDAY, AUG. 10

At approximately 9:29 a.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to FM 102 near Tower Road, Alleyton, in reference to a traffic hazard. After further investigation, Omar Martinez, age 32, of Eagle Lake, Tx, was arrested for Public Intoxication - Misdemeanor “C”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., deputy Smyers was dispatched to Splashway in Sheridan in reference to a wanted subject. After further investigation, Thomas Johnson, age 41, of Houston, Tx, was arrested for an out-of-county Misdemeanor warrant, Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1>=1G<4G Felony 3, and Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1>=4G<200G - Felony 2. Case cleared by adult arrest.

SUNDAY, AUG. 11

At approximately 4:56 p.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the Chevron Gas Station located in Columbus in reference to the displaying of a firearm on IH-10. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case is inactive.

TUESDAY, AUG. 13

At approximately 9:55 a.m., deputy Zwahr was dispatched to a public service in reference to a theft that occurred near IH-10 Eastbound near Alleyton. After further investigation, information was received, and a report was taken. The stolen equipment will be entered into TCIC/NCIC as stolen. Case is active.

At approximately 8:29 p.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the 600 block of Travis Street in Alleyton in reference to missing livestock. After further investigation, information was received and the livestock was later located. Case cleared.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 14

At approximately 4:13 a.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the 1400 block of Highway 90A in Sheridan in reference to theft. After further investigation, a warrant was issued and Dalton Sertuche, age 32, of Austin, Tx, was arrested for Theft of Property >$100<$750 - Misdemeanor “B”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

At approximately 9:52 a.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the Sheriff’s Office in reference to criminal mischief at his property located at the 1000 block of JT Powell Road, Sheridan. After further investigation, a warrant was issued in reference to this case, and John Bittinger, age 60, of Weimar, Tx, was arrested for Criminal Mischief >$750<$2,500 - Misdemeanor “A”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

At approximately 1:57 p.m., deputy Thomas was dispatched to the 700 blk of Colorado Street, Glidden, in reference to a theft. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case is inactive.

At approximately 8:47 p.m., deputy Johnson was dispatched to the 1000 block of Sunset Plaza Road, Columbus, in reference to an Intoxicated Person. After further investigation, it was determined an assault occurred and David Moore, age 62, of Columbus, Tx, was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Injury - Misdemeanor “A”. Case cleared by adult arrest.

THURSDAY, AUG. 15

At approximately 1:07 p.m., deputy Gorman was notified of a possible stolen vehicle located at a residence in the 100 block of Taylor Street, Glidden, Tx. After further investigation, the vehicle was located and recovered without incident. Case cleared.
