EL community center to host last Senior Citizen Dance

It’s time to strap your boots up for one last hoedown.

The Eagle Lake Community Center on 100 N Walnut Ave will be the stomping grounds for the final edition of the Christmas themed Senior Citizens’ Dance this Friday, Dec. 6 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The dances have been held on the first Friday of every month and have been going strong across Eagle Lake for the past 32 years, beginning in 1992.

Harry Supak, a local resident of Eagle Lake, and his family have been sponsoring the dances since they first began, continuing to do so when the dances moved over to the Eagle Lake Community Center in 1997.

According to a Facebook post made by Supak, he and his family are unable to continue sponsoring the monthly dances anymore due to a decline in attendance and the rising cost of facility rentals courtesy of new regulations.

“Due to the lack of attendance and the cost associated with all the new regulations imposed at the Eagle Lake Community Center,” said Supak. “We can no longer afford to have our Senior Dances any longer, so this is our last dance.”

Supak ended off his emotional farewell to the dances within his post, remarking the cliche, “all good things must come to an end.”

“We have enjoyed sponsoring these dances at the community center for the last 27 years and for a total of 32 years around Eagle Lake,” said Supak. “I guess all good things must come to an end. Love you folks and may God bless.”

The dances have always featured live music for attendees to enjoy throughout the years with the band, the “Blue Denim Band” playing the final dance this coming Friday.

Santa will be on the dance floor alongside attendees to celebrate and make the last dance even more memorable. Tickets will be $10 a person.
