USDA pays more than $1.77 billion to producers

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued more than $1.77 billion this year to agricultural producers and landowners through its Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), a critical piece of the Department’s efforts to support climate-smart agriculture and forestry on working lands. Right now, CRP’s more than 667,000 participants received payments from USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) for their voluntary conservation efforts on more than 23 million acres of private land. Since 2021, CRP has grown by 21 percent in terms of acres enrolled, testament to the Biden-Harris administration’s program improvement efforts.

My first seafood was a stuffed crab at Hill’s on the Galveston seawall in the 1940s. Later, summering at my grandmother’s home on the river west of Seguin, we had Sunday dinner at the Aumont Hotel. I ordered fried Gulf trout every time. I don’t know whether they were speckled trout, sand trout, or gafftop catfish -- I loved every bite!

Habitat for Humanity restores homes through charitable donations

Since 1976, the Habitat for Humanity organization has made it their mission to provide homes to those who do not have the resources to purchase one themselves. Their mission is extending to those who already own homes as earlier this year, Habitat for Humanity introduced their Critical Repairs Program to return damaged homes back to working condition.
