Thompson traveling tech route

Trinity Thompson, a 2024 graduate of Columbus High School, is embracing another step in his pathway toward his career dream: to become a computer programmer. He is attending Blinn College in Brenham this fall. The new environment promises to provide some challenging experiences such as balancing a full college schedule with a future work-study program as he lives in a college dorm.

The class he is most excited about involves learning the basics of code and how to write code for computers. He has had a strong and long interest in computer technology and cannot wait to learn more. He consistently appeared on the A/B Honor Roll all four years of high school. Varsity baseball and basketball were among his athletic passions. His community work included being a volunteer custodian for the Columbus First Church of Nazarene and working as a volunteer with the M.D. Anderson Blood Drive.

Ultimately, he would like to travel the “fouryear” degree path and earn a bachelor’s degree finishing at Texas State in San Marcos. The degree would enable him to broaden possibilities for top job choices.

Thompson received a Columbus Chr ist ian Women’s Organization (CCWO) Scholarship. President Sharon Johnson was delighted that their fundraising efforts made a scholarship available for such a deserving student. CCWO worked through the local non-profit 501(c) (3), Columbus Education Foundation, Inc. (CEF) to facilitate the scholarship process. CEF helped with all the steps along the way from creating an application to the evaluation and selection by teachers who were familiar with an applicant’s classroom performance.

CEF depends on community support and generosity to help grow scholarships annually. This nonprofit is ready to assist any organization, business or individual to make even more 2025 scholarships available. 21 CISD scholarships were facilitated by CEF in 2024 by a task force directed by CEF director Heather Thomas. Some scholarships were named in memory of a loved one or in honor of a family. CEF president Patsy Hodge shared, “All of our CEF work in helping to create scholarships is done by volunteers which keeps every dollar going to recipients bypassing any operating expenses.” More information on how to create a scholarship is available at 979-733-2122.
