HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SCARECROW CONTEST REGISTRATION DUE SEPT. 20

The second annual Colorado County Habitat for Humanity Scarecrow contest will be in full swing all October long, with registration due on Friday, Sept. 20.

Colorado County residents, schools, churches, businesses and other entities can enter the competition to build and display a scarecrow in front of their premises, putting their creativity on full display.

The scarecrows will be up all October long, with online voting starting on October 21 at 9 a.m. and ending on October 25 at 3 p.m.

The winner of the competition will be announced at 1 p.m. during the pumpkin patch.

WEIMAR CHESS CLUB TO BEGIN MEETING EVERY TUESDAY

The Weimar Chess Club (WCC) will begin meeting every Tuesday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Weimar Public Library in Weimar. The WCC is free to all ages above five.

David McCall, club sponsor, is a retired teacher who taught for 15 years, a former elementary school counselor for 20 years and has 19 years of experience as a scholastic chess coach.

McCall will provide frere chess instruction and start each WCC meeting with a short lesson, followed by casual play time using the International Chess Federation rules.
