SAN FELIPE – One of the integral towns in American immigration to Texas during the settler area is recognizing its long history as San Felipe with a 200th-year birthday celebration on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As Veteran’s Day approaches on Nov. 11, towns around the country have been finding ways to celebrate and recognize the sacrifices of living and deceased members of the U.S. military. Colorado County has several impending events to participate in the celebration as the towns in the area are heavily influenced by the presence of veteran residents.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Boy Scout Troop 312 is hosting a hamburger fundraiser on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the proceeds returning to the scout program in the town. The Columbus Noon Lions Club is providing their signature grilled burgers along with a bag of chips as the dinner offered in the drive through fundraiser. Dialing back landscape watering is an easy way to make a big difference

COLUMBUS – The workers of AL&M Building Supply celebrated one of their own on Nov. 2 as longtime worker Doris Guthman reached 25 years of service at business. Guthman’s celebration was held at the Hound Song Brewing Company brewhouse to recognize her accomplishments as an integral part of the company.

The Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association (BMGA) announced that registration is open for its 2024 Master Gardener Certification Training Class to be held in Brenham. The class is open to participants from Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington Counties, and will provide 50+ hours of gardening education from experts in various fields of horticulture.

AUSTIN – Waterfowl season is on the horizon and as hunters across the state start prepping their gear and boats for opening day, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reminds them to join the fight against the spread of aquatic invasive species like giant salvinia and zebra mussels.
