BROOKSHIRE — Governor Abbott’s attendance at a Jan. 17 event hosted by District 85 Representative Stan Kitzman featured an endorsement from Abbott for Kitzman’s reelection in March.

There were over 250 guests in attendance at the Cafe at Brookwood, the event hosts.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s endorsement was issued last month, calling Kitzman “a true conservative champion fighting for a secure border, historic property tax relief, and our state’s mighty economy.”

The Governor spoke about how Kitzman was instrumental in the largest property tax cut in Texas history. He also praised Kitzman in his efforts to secure the border and recently the Governor signed three border policies bills to protect Texans against the Biden administration open borders.

Following the Governor’s comments, Rep. Kitzman expressed his pride to be in attendance in Brownsville where the Governor signed the new acts where illegal entry into Texas is now subject to removal or imprisonment as well as increased penalties for human trafficking. Rep. Kitzman also filed a bill during session and special session to establish guidelines for children crossing the border illegally to protect them so they would not be subject to child human and sex trafficking.

“While men and woman entering this country illegally face the repercussions of doing so, children shouldn’t suffer at the hands of the Biden administration,” Kitzman said, “It’s our duty as lawmakers to see that the most vulnerable population is protected here in Texas.”

Rep. Kitzman noted he was proud to receive the Governors endorsement but stated there is much more work to be done especially on our borders.

Kitzman was rated the seventh most effective legislative member in the Texas House of Representatives during his first term which began January 2023.

Kitzman served on House Committees Natural Resources, Agriculture & Livestock as well as Resolutions Calendars.

District 85 represents Wharton, Austin, Colorado, Fayette and Waller counties along with a portion of Fort Bend County.
