COLUMBUS – Don’t forget the 2023 Magnolia Days Festival is set for May 19 -20 in downtown Columbus.

WEIMAR – This year’s Gedenke! was one for the books; not just because the city is celebrating 150 years, but because of how the community came together to have a good time even when the weather appeared to damper the festival’s events.

Anyone driving around Columbus must have seen one or two new murals going up in the Downtown area. The first is on the side of the Tri-County Realty - Double G Realty Group building on Milam Street across from the County Courthouse. The other is at the entrance to the newly named “Artist Alley,” in the 500 block of Walnut Street.

COLUMBUS – In memory of the fallen and in honor of the Peace Officers and Law Enforcement Officials of Colorado County, a Peace Officer Memorial Day tribute was held on the Courthouse lawn on Monday, May 15.

Robert Ray Eaton, II, 40, of Columbus, Texas passed away on May 15, 2023, in Columbus, Texas. He was born on Aug. 3, 1982, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The Columbus High School Class of 1953 held their 70th reunion on May 13 at the Phoenix Event Center, 1626 CR 218, Weimar. The 1953 graduating class had 49 students with 14 members still surviving.

Bobbie Jo Contreras, otherwise known as “Colorado County’s volunteer caregiver,” made her rounds throughout the community last week partnering with Arbor Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Eagle Lake, Columbus Oaks Assisted Living in Columbus, and Oak Bluff Village in Columbus to help glamorize the residents.

On the weekend of April 28 -30, the Class of 1973 celebrated their 50th reunion.

The May 6 election was a county wide, joint election with all Colorado County school districts holding a board election and the City of Eagle Lake holding an Alderman election.

EAGLE LAKE – The Eagle Lake City Council held a regular session on Tuesday, May 9 to discuss taking action on appointing an Associate Municipal Judge for Eagle Lake.

EAGLE LAKE – The Eagle Lake City Council had a special meeting on Monday night to canvass the election results and to swear in its new members.

NEW JUSTICE OF THE PEACE SWORN IN

Goodlettsville, Tenn. – On May 11, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation announced the award of more than $840,000 in literacy grants to Texas nonprofit organizations, libraries and schools.

COLUMBUS – The Colorado County Courthouse lawn was filled Thursday afternoon with community members gathering for the annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday.

COLUMBUS – The Colorado County Commissioners held a regular meeting on Monday, May 8 to take action on the committee’s recommendation to fill the vacancy of the Office of the Justice of the Peace Precinct 3.

The annual Gedenke! Festival in Weimar is set to return for Mother’s Day weekend, May 1113.

James (Jim) Theodore Danklefs Jr. of Georgetown, Texas passed away on March 27 at the age of 75. He was born to the late Ted and Iris Danklefs on March 11, 1948, in El Campo, Texas.

Linda Joyce Climent Munos Rodgers, 76 of Mentz, Texas passed away peacefully on May 3, 2023, in Columbus, Texas.

Roger Dale Pilsner, age 79, passed away on May 2, 2023, in Alleyton, Texas. He was born to August and Elsie (Gundelach) Pilsner on Sept. 16, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. He married the love of his life, Caroline Friese on Oct. 8, 1965.
