WEIMAR – This year’s Gedenke! was one for the books; not just because the city is celebrating 150 years, but because of how the community came together to have a good time even when the weather appeared to damper the festival’s events.

This past Saturday, storms moving through the area bringing flooding and severe weather leading the Weimar Chamber of Commerce to cancel some of the festival’s morning events, such as the car show, parade, and children’s inflatables. However, the weather broke just in time for the Weimar Encore Lions Club Annual Pie Contest and Auction around 3 p.m. at the Weimar City Park Pavillion. Locals were also able to enjoy some of the entertainment musical acts lined up for the night and visit vendors.

“Rain or shine, we can always depend on the citizens of Weimar to support our organizations,” Weimar Encore Lions Club President Nancy Parrish said.

The proceeds from the auction will go towards supporting local charities and community projects.

While it is not clear if the festival has cancelled parts of its events in the past due to weather, one thing for sure, the citizens of Weimar know how to persevere and help this festival continue to draw many attendees each year.
